During the Easter Egg Hunt on April 15, 2017, the Kappa Leaguers played a key role in the success of the event. Kappa Leaguers were in attendance to volunteer in various parts of the event. They assisted with the games and activities for the kids and distributed food throughout the event. Kappa Alpha Psi was the organizer of the event this year, under the direction of Brother Stafford Watts.
A major highlight of the Kappa League’s trip to the 2017 Northern Province Council was that our very own Austin Copeland received the runner-up trophy for Kappa League Northern Province Student of the Year (SOTY).
Every Chapter in our Province may enter one Junior or Senior into the SOTY competition. Austin represented the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti-Inkster Alumni Chapter.
The application involves a summary of high school activities, community activities and service efforts along with an essay on goals and a transcript of grades. Then the candidates have a interview with community members invited by the Province to be judges. Finally, each candidate performs a talent in front of the entire Province attendees. Austin did a viola solo.
In the end Austin was given 2nd place. This was the first time AAYI has placed in the top three awards in SOTY and a great accomplishment for Austin.
