Maurice S. Henderson was elected as the first African-American President of the National Association of Parliamentarians. NAP held its 39th Biennial Convention in St. Petersburg, Florida on September 23-26, 2011, at which time Brother Henderson was elected to serve a two-year term as president of the 80 year old organization. As president, he will serve as the chief executive officer and will oversee all the day-to-day operations of the organization composed of more than 4,000 members throughout the country and internationally. The purpose of the NAP is to provide leadership, training, and professional services to organizations to assist them in having more effective meetings.
Brother Henderson has been a member of NAP since 2000 and became credentialed as a professional registered parliamentarian in 2002. He has been active as a board member of many organizations such as the National Business Education Association and Association of Career/Technical Education. He is also an avid supporter of the Washington, DC Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial and the NAACP. Since 1993, he has been employed as the Executive Director for Business Professionals of America-Michigan Association, a national non-profit organization for high school and college business students.
During the 80th Grand Chapter Meeting Centennial Celebration in Indianapolis, Brother Henderson was initiated into our bond. “Joining Kappa Alpha Psi was a momentous occasion because it’s something I’ve aspired towards for a long time,” Henderson states. “The entire initiation experience was very special. I am glad I could achieve this historical accomplishment to bring great recognition to Kappa Alpha Psi.”
