Philadelphia, PA – November 1, 2016 – Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated has announced that Spencer Tyrone Bruce has been named Interim Executive Director, effective November 1, 2016.
According to Grand Polemarch (CEO) Thomas L. Battles, Jr., Spencer Bruce, former Deputy Executive Director of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity will lead the fraternity into its 83rd Grand Chapter Meeting and Conclave to be held July 18-22, 2017, in Orlando, Florida. Battles thanked Executive Director Ernest Brown for his service. Bruce will assume his position Tuesday, November 2, 2016.
Spencer Bruce is a native of Tallahassee, Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Florida A&M University. He has also completed additional studies at the University of Central Michigan. Brother Bruce was initiated into Florida A&M University’s Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., in May 1977 and graduated in 1980 as a Distinguished Military Graduate.
After eight years active duty he transferred to the Army Reserve and into corporate America where he served in leadership positions in the foodservice arena with Proctor & Gamble, Pepsi and Shoney’s and completed the remainder of his 21 years of military service, retiring at the rank of Major.
In August 1998, Bruce became the first Chief of Staff for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He has been a Life Member of the fraternity since 1981 and is a Life Member of the Southern Province of the fraternity. He has held various offices in several chapters to include charter member of the Abington-Ambler (PA) Alumni Chapter and the Johannesburg-Pretoria-Cape Town Alumni Chapter in South Africa. He also served as the Assistant General Manager for Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation, Inc., President Emeritus of the AME Union Federal Credit Union and sits on several other boards.
Major (Ret.) Spencer T. Bruce is the immediate past Deputy Executive Director of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and the Chief of Staff for its International Headquarters in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the only person to have served in this position. He was responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the headquarters and a staff of twelve (12) including two executives. Additionally, he assisted the Executive Director with the implementation of all initiatives of the fraternity, and with the management of an annual operating budget of 2+ million dollars and an active membership of 24,000 and over 700 chapters throughout the United States and abroad. Spencer was employed at the International Headquarters for 16+ years and has subsequently served as an entrepreneur consultant.
